Aiming to Reopen May 11th with Social Distancing

by Kristi Potts on 04/28/20

April 28, 2020

YMCA Members, Supporters, Donors, Volunteers and Friends,

As you may or may not have heard, Governor Reynolds in her Monday news conference has granted fitness clubs, the category that the Montgomery County Family YMCA fits into, to open with restrictions on Friday, May 1. Also, in the proclamation that she signed on Monday was the statement that pools & spas (whirlpools) are to remain closed for the time being.

I will be meeting with the YMCA’s management staff to plan our reopening strategy. When we reopen, we will be doing it in the safest possible way for our members and YMCA staff. A new “normal” will exist within the YMCA facility in how we operate and interact with our members. There will be limitations on what areas of the YMCA are open, plus a limit of participants in exercise classes to maintain social distancing.

The YMCA board of directors discussed at their April meeting to aim for a Monday, May 11 opening date. Please know that we will do our best to make that happen.

Remember that the May 1 draft of monthly membership fees will go forward as mentioned in a prior communication. As a non-profit charitable organization, your monthly payment during this time can be converted to a charitable donation for tax purposes to the YMCA’s “Comeback Fund’. We can issue you a receipt upon reopening of the facility. Also, if you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact me at johnb@mcymca.com or by phone at (712) 623-2161 to discuss the matter.

I will do my best to continue to communicate with you regarding the progress that the staff makes in getting the YMCA ready for reopening.

Please Stay Safe!

Sincerely,

John Blomstedt
