YMCA Corner
by Kristi Potts on 02/13/14

After suffering a heart attack in
2012, Mike Olson knew things needed to change. When he started cardiac rehab,
the doctors recommended walking and exercising for 30 minutes every other day. He
joined the YMCA that fall and has continued coming even after his rehab was
finished.
When asked about his condition
during this time he said, “The doctors saw an improvement in my health. I lost
50 lbs, had more energy, felt stronger, and had better coordination.”
The Y is more than a gym. It’s a
cause with a commitment
to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living, and fostering a
sense of social responsibility. Mike first started giving back by participating
in the board development committee and is now on the Board of Directors and
head of the Aquatics/Program Committee this year.
