Y Not Chili Takes Home 3rd Place!

by Kristi Potts on 10/15/18

It was a cool, misty day for the football game between the Greene County Rams and the Red Oak Tigers on Friday, October 12th. Fortunately, for those in the know, food and shelter beckoned in the form of the Barb Gray Memorial Chili Cook-Off at the Red Oak Firehouse near the Russ Benda Field. A Red Oak Express Sales Representative, Barb Gray was memorable for the cook-offs she organized in the past and last Friday with its warm and spicy concoctions helped chase away the chill. Delectable baked goods were available for those with a sweet tooth as well.

YMCA Customer Service Representative Kathy Vandrey might not reveal her chili recipe, but we are glad she was willing to share her version of the meat and bean dish. A truly American melting pot of savory spice, it was the perfect antidote to the near-constant dampness and warmed the soul.

Comment on Bullying and the YMCA

by Kristi Potts on 09/25/18

The staff of the Montgomery County Family YMCA was made aware of the recent video posting regarding bullying among participants in the YMCA’s youth volleyball program.

The YMCA staff does not support bullying in any form. We are concerned about the impact that the video and the subsequent social media conversation has had on all parties involved. One of the youth voluntarily withdrew from the volleyball program due to her actions. The YMCA will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate steps if further action is needed.

I would personally like to apologize for how my comments regarding bullying were interpreted. My choice of words did not clearly reflect my personal stance, and that of the YMCA’s, that any type of bullying is acceptable.

I ask that you contact me personally at the YMCA if you have any comments regarding this incident.
