Good Friday Breakfast
by Kristi Potts on 04/23/19
Montgomery County
Family YMCA Press Release (Red Oak, Iowa)
Friday, April 19th,
2019
The Montgomery County Family YMCA in partnership with the Montgomery County Family YMCA Men’s Thursday Bible Study Group and the Montgomery County Ministerial Fellowship held the 7th Annual Good Friday Breakfast on Friday, April 19th, 2019. Pastor Ricky Rohrig of Crossroads Church, Red Oak began the breakfast with a prayer followed by Master of Ceremonies Steven Colerick giving a reminder about the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2nd. The National Day of Prayer is held annually on the first Thursday of May. This year will mark a change in location to the Gold Fair Building at 6:30 a.m., instead of the usual location of the Red Coach Inn & Restaurant. Parkersburg Iowa Police Chief Chris Luring will be speaking on the power of the human spirit, of self-sacrifice, and how god worked in Parkersburg in the midst of death and destruction after the EF-5 tornado hit the rural community and in the wake of the death of his mentor and friend Football Coach Ed Thomas who was fatally shot in the high school’s weight room. The program continued with Mindy Docker of Red Oak singing reverent hymns of thanksgiving about Jesus’ love and sacrifice at the cross on Easter. This year’s featured speaker Pastor Jason Latta of City Light Church of Southwest Iowa in Emerson, IA continued the mood of worship with a message from Mark 14:32-36 which recounts Jesus’ prayer at Gethsemane before he would bare the pain and weight of our sins and separation from God the Father during his death. Why did He do it? Pastor Latta revealed the answer to be as simple and true as the song: Jesus loves us. To end the program Reverend Roger Claxton of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Red Oak, IA led the gathering in a closing prayer.
Be sure to mark your calendars for next year’s Good Friday Breakfast on April 10th, 2020.
