by Kristi Potts on 11/27/15
YMCA News for Immediate Release
TOGETHERHOOD committee member Abigail Sherman spearheaded the Books & Blessings program because she saw a need to promote reading in the middle school, so she formed the program with the help of the Red Oak High School Student Council and the Togetherhood Committee. Boxes were provided at the Red Oak High School, Washington Intermediate, the YMCA, Fareway, and HyVee for people to drop off books from November 1st-20th.

The TOGETHERHOOD social responsibility program provides Y members with an easy, fun, and rewarding way to volunteer for service projects that strengthen our community. The program is run by a committee of Y members (John Blomstedt, Ellen Griffen, Gerry Lundgren, Courtney Meyer-Y USA Togetherhood Facilitator, Margarita Montes, Beth Olsen, Nikki Rengstorf, Abigail Sherman, and Nick Zimmer) that helps organize and run four service projects a year with only a one year commitment.
Upcoming projects will be the Adopt a Child for Christmas program on December 19th from 8 am – Noon followed by the Love Your Neighbor Food Drive in February. For more information on the TOGETHERHOOD program and how you can be involved, please call 712-623-2161 or e-mail Gerry Lundgren at gerrylun@myfmtc.com.

Babysitting Room Hour Change
by Kristi Potts on 11/16/15
Effective Monday, November 15, 2015, the babysitting room will
have its evening hours eliminated. The morning hours will be extended to 9:00 –
11:00 a.m., Monday – Friday.
The reason for this change is the very limited amount of usage the
room has been getting during the evening hours for the past two years. Also,
the response we received on the survey we conducted in August – September
favored extending the morning hours.
We realize that the room does provide a valuable service to our
members but we also must be fiscally responsible to the YMCA board and the
membership.
If you have any questions regarding the hour change please feel free to visit or contact John Blomstedt, progdir@mcymca.com or @ 712.623.2161
