YMCA to Receive Grant for New Fitness Equipment
by Kristi Potts on 03/25/14
Montgomery
County Family YMCA Press Release (Red Oak, Iowa)
Immediate News Release
Friday, March 21st, 2014
The Montgomery County Family YMCA of Red Oak, Iowa
recently learned that the YMCA will be the recipient of an $18,000 grant from
the Montgomery County Foundation Advisory Board.
This grant will be used to enhance the experience of
members of the YMCA and guests with new fitness, wellness, personal, cross
training & circuit training equipment. The YMCA plans to install new
wellness center flooring as well as part of the new look to the YMCA’s Bulkeley
Wellness & Fitness Center.
The YMCA’s current equipment and center has been
taken care of at a very high level since the YMCA’s opening in October,
2000. The current equipment manufacturer is no longer operational which has
made things extremely difficult to obtain necessary replacement parts for the
current circuit equipment along with a changing technology to assist Jr. High
students to older active adults to assist them with their personal wellness
& fitness needs.
The YMCA this past October, 2014 was awarded a
$32,500 1:1 matching grant with the Iowa West Foundation for the same project.
The YMCA is in need of about $70,000 to complete this project and have the new
equipment and flooring installed this August, 2014.
The Montgomery County Family YMCA will kickoff the
public phase of this facility enhancement campaign in late April to early June,
2014 to all YMCA members, community and area residents to support this
wonderful project that will benefit individuals from Jr. High School students
to older active adults.
The YMCA has already raised $60,000 so far for
this project which the Montgomery County Community Foundation Advisory Board
did award the Montgomery County Family YMCA a $5,000 fall grant in November of
2014.
The goal of the Montgomery County Community Foundation Advisory Board is to improve the quality of life in the county by supporting needs that are not being met in the areas of civic, cultural, health education, and social service.
The YMCA wants to thank all the members of the
Montgomery County Community Foundation Advisory Board and staff for their
time and willingness to help administer this program to truly make impressive
impacts with so many outstanding and wonderful programs in funding too many
worthwhile organizations within our county.

Shamrock Shuffle - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
by Kristi Potts on 03/09/14
The YMCA, in cooperation with the Friends Of The Red Oak Trails, will be staging the Shamrock Shuffle 5K race/walk on Saturday, March 15th. The event is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. and should be completed by 10:00 a.m.
The YMCA and FOTROT will be splitting the proceeds of the event and hope that the Shuffle turns into an annual event.
Both organizations are asking for volunteers to help stage the event. The main duties that we need help with are people acting as course monitors to help with traffic flow and to help at the finish line. Volunteers would meet at 8:30 a.m. that morning in the YMCA’s multipurpose room to find out what and where their assignment is. As I mentioned earlier, the event will be done by 10:00 a.m.
If you are interested in helping out that morning, please contact me by phone at 623-2161 or by email at progdir@mcymca.com.
Thank you for your
support of the YMCA and it’s programs.
