2015 Board of Directors

The
Montgomery County Family YMCA (Red Oak, Iowa) recently held it's Annual Meeting
and January Board of Director's Meeting on Thursday, January 19th, 2015 at the
Red Coach Inn & Restaurant in Red Oak, Iowa.
The
YMCA was able to recognize the following volunteer board of directors for their
leadership and dedication to the YMCA.
Shirley
Billings completed her two year term as Board of Director President. Billings
will continue to serve on the YMCA board of directors and is a member of the
YMCA's endowment committee.
Brian
Mensen will replace Billings as the YMCA's Board of Director President. Brian
is involved with many activities at the YMCA and volunteers for various YMCA
youth sports coaching opportunities.
Al
Nelson completed two 3 year board of director's terms. Nelson will still
volunteer on the YMCA's Membership/ Marketing/ Special Events & Religious
Emphasis Committee. Al Nelson will represent the YMCA as a volunteer with Nick
Zimmer, Executive Director of the Montgomery County Family YMCA, to this year's
state of Iowa Public Policy Event held in Des Moines, Iowa on January 27th
& 28th, 2015.
Mark McCaffrey completed his service to the
YMCA's board of directors as well. McCaffrey has served in many YMCA leadership
roles such as President of the board of directors, Vice President of the board
of directors, and he recently chaired the YMCA's Finance & Personnel
Committee and served on the YMCA's Membership/Marketing/Special Events/
Religious Emphasis Committee. McCaffrey will continue to serve on both
committees.
Rev.
Fred Pilecki completed his first term on the YMCA's board of directors. Rev.
Pilecki will serve his second (3 year) board of director term starting in 2015.
Rev. Pilecki serves as the YMCA's board of director secretary and as a
committee member to the YMCA's endowment committee and
Membership/Marketing/Special Events committee. Rev. Pilecki also donates his
time to assist the YMCA with special facility projects.
Sharon
Wiese was recently installed to serve on the YMCA's board of directors as well
as chair the YMCA's Membership/Marketing/Special Events/ Religious Emphasis
Committee.
Other
YMCA current board of directors:
Mark
Benda, who chairs the YMCA facility & property committee.
Rudee
DeMarce, who chairs the YMCA's annual campaign committee.
Beth
Vial currently is chairing the YMCA personnel & finance committee. Vial is
also the YMCA's Treasurer as well as chairing the YMCA's board development
committee on an interim basis.
Mike
Olson serves as the YMCA's President Elect to the board of directors and chairs
the YMCA's programming committee.
All
of the board members are from Red Oak. The YMCA has one board of director term
to complete in the coming weeks.

YMCA volunteer Al Nelson and Montgomery County
Family Executive Director Nick Zimmer recently attended the 2015 Iowa Alliance
Advocacy Day’s Conference and breakfast on January 27th and 28th, 2015 at the
state capitol in Des Moines, IA. While they were there they met with Senator
Mark Costello, House Representative Cecil Dolecheck and Iowa State Senator Tom
Shipley.
At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. We
believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all
work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That's why
we focus our work in three areas: youth development, healthy living and social
responsibility. The Iowa YMCA 2015 Alliance Legislative Priorities are:

find the Montgomery County Family YMCA’s 2014 Community Impact information. One
key additional information on the impact of the Montgomery County Family YMCA
to the community of Red Oak is worth noting.
It’s
estimated through estimated total direct spending by non residents that
participate in YMCA programming, tournaments and special events is over
$200,000 annually. It’s also estimated that over $14,000 of sales tax revenue
is generated through the YMCA bringing in non community residents to
participate in various YMCA programs, tournaments and events!

Red Oak Stay & Play

Stay & Play in Red Oak in 2015
The Red Oak Stay & Play Package is something special for all! This program has been designed to bring tourism into Red Oak and to “Stay & Play” in Red Oak. For an incredible rate one can choose to use this package will receive a night at the Red Coach Inn & Restaurant, a $30 Food Voucher at the Red Oak Coach Restaurant, and either 18 holes of golf at the Red Oak Country Club, indoor tennis and use of the Montgomery County YMCA facilities, or 2 tickets to a performance at the Wilson Performing Arts Center. This is a $200 package offered at half price and more. The program is a great opportunity to invite friends and family to Red Oak, plan a business retreat, or maybe plan your own little local getaway.
The collaboration team of the Red Oak Country Club, the Montgomery County Family YMCA, The Wilson Performing Arts Center, The Red Coach Inn & Restaurant, and the Red Oak Chamber & Industry Association was formed in the summer of 2013 and continues to work together, to promote overnight stay’s and visits to the Red Oak community.
Through the funding with Red Oak Hotel/Motel tax and the
bi annual grant process through the City of Red Oak Tourism & Recreation
Committee, the above mentioned businesses as well as other community
organizations have the ability to encourage people to come to Red Oak and enjoy
some of the many great opportunities that the community of Red Oak has to
offer.

Recently on Saturday, January 17th, 2015 a great example of the Red Oak Stay & Play program took place. The Des Moines Roosevelt High School (Des Moines, IA) Girls Varsity Tennis Team, coach and some parents traveled to Red Oak too play tennis at the Montgomery Family YMCA Carder Indoor Tennis Center, enjoy the Red Coach Inn & Restaurant, tour by some of Red Oak’s historical homes and went to the Grand Theater showing. The team was doing a team building weekend retreat. The team also stopped in Villisca Iowa to tour the Villisca Ax Murder House and the community of Stanton, Iowa. The entire team, coaching staff and parents that traveled with the Des Moines Roosevelt High School Girls Varsity Tennis team would just amazed of the Carder Indoor Tennis Center at the Montgomery County Family YMCA as well as the first class accommodations at the Red Coach Inn & Restaurant. The team and traveling party enjoyed their stay in Red Oak.
The Montgomery County Family YMCA through the YMCA’s indoor tennis center facility and programs has seen since the Red Oak Stay & Play Package has been formed in the summer of 2013, collegiate tennis teams that are playing collegiate tennis matches in Red Oak, United States Junior Tennis tournament players that have participated in USTA tennis tournaments at the YMCA all take advantage of the Red Oak Play & Stay program. The Red Oak County Club has seen golfing groups from the Midwest enjoy championship golf at the Red Oak County Club. The Wilson Performing Arts Center has had several bus tours come to Red Oak, to tour the community, enjoy a performance at the Wilson Performing Arts Center and stay overnight in Red Oak.
The Stay & Play Committee has had overnight guests through the organized marketing plan developed by the committee from the states of Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Illinois and Minnesota enjoy the wonderful amenities that community of Red Oak, Iowa has to offer along with the surrounding area has to offer as well To make Red Oak and surrounding area a great place to visit, live, work and play in.
