2015 Annual Campaign Kick Off Event is Near!

by Kristi Potts on 02/10/15

Montgomery County Family YMCA 2015 Annual Campaign “The Y. So Much More.”

Ready to kick off on Thursday, March 12th, 2015

2015 campaign goal is $55,000! These funds help support community & area needs!

Red Oak, Iowa, Thursday, February 19th, 2015 – The Montgomery County Family YMCA’s Annual Campaign, “The Y. So Much More.” is designed so that everyone in Montgomery County and throughout the area has access to vital community/ area programs and resources that support youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Every day, the Montgomery County Family YMCA works to support the people and neighborhoods that need it most by addressing community matters, such as fitness and healthy lifestyle for all ages, chronic health issues, school partnerships, and to serve as a center for social networking.

“Throughout Montgomery County, countless people know the “the Y”. But there’s so much more to our Y than one might think”, said Rudee DeMarce, YMCA Board of Director and chair of the 2015 Annual Campaign program. “The Y is more than a gym. It’s a cause. As a charity, we’re dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving the nation’s health and well-being, and giving back and providing support to our neighbors.”

This year, the Montgomery County Family YMCA campaign goal is to raise $55,000. DeMarce indicated that the campaign has received early gifts totaling over $6,000 so far. Funds raised will support a wide range of activities from athletics to summer day camp. The Y doesn’t just strengthen bodies – it strengthens people, families and communities.

Last year and as well as this year, charitable gifts from YMCA donors made it possible for kids to have a safe place to learn and build confidence after school; for families to reconnect and grow together; for members of the community of all ages, access to fitness education and training to reach their full potential.  DeMarce mentioned that donors will receive the wonderful satisfaction of knowing that they helped someone enjoy YMCA services that truly needs assistance to be involved with youth programming and to keep programs affordable for everyone to be able to participate in. The Montgomery County Family YMCA has had in place for 20 years the policy that “no one will be denied membership or programming opportunity due to financial limitations.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
MARK & DEBBIE GRABER

Mark & Debbie Graber know that finding a time to work out is not always easy. They found that coming together and having someone to keep you accountable and motivated to get up at 5:00 am was helpful and it soon turned into a weekly routine. As Debbie said in a recent e-mail, “About a year ago, we found out it was best for us to work out first thing in the morning since we were usually at a ball game most nights. It is fun to see the same familiar faces in the morning at the Y of people who are also taking advantage of an early morning workout. It is a great way to start the day! ”

Being involved in physical activity has also been important for their kids as well. Nikki is a senior, their son, Dylan, a junior, and the twins, Maci and Morgan, are in 6th grade.  Their children have been involved in several Y programs over the years which have served to sharpen their skills in sports such as basketball, football, track, cross country and volleyball.

The lucky winners of the $5,000 were Rex & Terri Allen of Red Oak. The event raised $22,000 which went towards funding the YMCA’s new speaker sound systems throughout the facility and towards other operational funds.
