2014 End of Year Annual Campaign Update
by Kristi Potts on 01/17/15
Montgomery County Family YMCA 2014 Annual Campaign to Support Community Needs reaches the $52,000 mark.
Red
Oak, Iowa, Wednesday, December 24th, 2014 – The Montgomery County
Family YMCA’s Annual Campaign, “The Y. So Much More.” is designed so that everyone in Montgomery County and throughout the
area has access to vital community/ area programs and resources that support
youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Every day, the Montgomery County Family YMCA works to support the people and neighborhoods that need it most by addressing community matters, such as fitness and healthy lifestyle for all ages, chronic health issues, school partnerships, and to serve as a center for social networking.
“Throughout Montgomery County, countless people know the “the Y”. But there’s so much more to our Y than one might think”, said Nick Zimmer, Executive Director, Montgomery County Family YMCA. “The Y is more than a gym. It’s a cause. As a charity, we’re dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving the nation’s health and well-being, and giving back and providing support to our neighbors.”
This year, the Montgomery County Family YMCA campaign goal is to raise $56,000. Nick Zimmer, Executive Director of the Montgomery County Family YMCA indicated that the campaign has received gifts totaling $52,000 so far. Funds raised will support a wide range of activities from athletics to summer day camp. The Y doesn’t just strengthen bodies – it strengthens people, families, and communities.
Last year and as well as this year, charitable gifts from YMCA donors made it possible for kids to have a safe place to learn and build confidence after school; for families to reconnect and grow together; for members of the community of all ages, access to fitness education and training to reach their full potential.
The final day’s of December is a great way to make
one’s yearly contribution to programs like the YMCA’s annual campaign program.
Donors will receive the great gift this holiday season knowing that they helped
someone enjoy YMCA services that truly needs YMCA services or assist youth
programming to keep programs affordable for everyone to be able to participate
in. The Montgomery County Family YMCA has had nearly a 20 year policy that “no
one will be denied membership or programming opportunity due to financial
limitations.

CHARLES & NORMA WILSON TRIBUTE
The Montgomery County Family YMCA would like to pay a special tribute to the late Charles & Norma Wilson in recognition of their significant financial contributions to, and dedicated support of, the Montgomery County Family YMCA. Every day, the Y develops the potential of individuals and empowers them to create a better future for themselves, their families and their communities. They were top benefactors that recently made a significant donation to the YMCA’s permanent endowment fund with the Charles & Norma Wilson Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust. This will assist with YMCA programming and operations. The principal gift will not be spent as the YMCA will earn investment funds from the very generous gift that will keep giving forever. To learn more about how one can make any size of gift through estate planning contact Executive Director Nick Zimmer at (712) 623-2161 ext.13, by e-mail at execdir@mcymca.com, or visit the YMCA at 101 East Cherry Street, Red Oak, IA.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - CHRIS JOHNSON
After retiring, Chris Johnson, found the Y was a great place to meet new people and exercise at the same time. She especially enjoys the water class Aquacize and the indoor walking track which is great to utilize in the cold, icy weather. In the past she has volunteered to teach children’s craft classes. This was a great way to involve children in the Y for those who were not into sports. She has also become involved in the YMCA Auxiliary. The Auxiliary is our volunteer service organization that helps at various events such as Soupfest, Golf Benefit Tournament, parades, and special community/area events at the YMCA or throughout the community. As she said recently, “The Auxiliary is a great way to give back to the Y and meet some of our community's families and senior citizens. The YMCA is a warm and inviting facility for everyone, from kids in the daycare to seniors attending the Soupfest during the winter. Our community is so fortunate to have it. We should all do what we can to continue to make the Y the great place that it is.”For more information on the Auxiliary Club, or how you can become a member, please call Diane Sifford at 712-623-1016, stop by the Montgomery County Family YMCA, located in the beautiful Red Oak Legion Park at 101 East Cherry Street, or visit us online at the YMCA’s website at www.mcymca.com.
