IOWA TAX SALE
The Montgomery County Family YMCA was blessed to have eight volunteers and two staff members give part of their day to work the Union County (Creston, IA) and Fremont County (Sidney, IA) Iowa Tax Sale Program.

Through the efforts of the following individuals the YMCA was able to raise $600 working these two county tax sales that take place throughout the state of Iowa on the third Monday in June annually.
The $600 raised on the 16th of June benefited the YMCA’s 2014 “The Y. So Much More” annual campaign.

ANNUAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE
We have raised over $40,100 of our annual campaign goal to raise $56,000 so far. Funds raised will support a wide range of activities from athletics to summer day camp. The Y doesn't just strengthen bodies – it strengthens
people, families and communities.
To learn more about how you can support the Y’s cause, please contact Nick Zimmer, Executive Director at
712-623-2161 or execdir@mcymca.com.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
TOM BURKHISER
Tom Burkhiser started coming to the Montgomery County YMCA when it first opened in the fall of 2000.
He stated in a recent e-mail. “In the early planning stages of the local Y, surveys would always ask what we would like to see, and I always indicated that I wanted an indoor swimming pool. When that be-came a reality I was anxious to start swimming. So, from the first day on I began using the pool as my main form of exercise.”
He started slowly, but quickly worked his way up to 30 or 40 laps a day, 5 days a week, and that has progressed into a regular routine, often swimming a mile (71 laps) or more each day. Tom con-tinued his story by saying, “I just recently completed my 2,000th mile in the Y pool! I'd say it's been a life-saver, or at least an extender! The physical activity as well as the friendships that I have made are both awesome.”
About two years ago he completed a life-saving course and is now a life-guard at the Y, too. He works just a few times each month but finds it re-warding and fun. He also enjoys the wonderful facility in other ways, too, such as using the walking track and gym. Tom's summer plans are to com-plete his 3rd full RAGBRAI. He has also participated in two other RAGBRAI's for a day or two. He says he's a little amazed that he accomplished that and attributes it to his workouts at the YMCA.

FATHER’S DAY
RAFFLE WINNER
BRIAN LERETTE

The drawing for the Montgomery County Family YMCA’s Father’s Day prize was held Friday, June 13th at noon. Brian LeRette, whose name was submitted by his son Joshua, won.

The special Father’s Day prize was a $50 gas card made available by the BP Station located at 1715 North Broadway in Red Oak, IA and the Montgomery County Family YMCA.

Brian and his wife, Dawn, operate Nelson-Boylan-LeRette’s Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa. Their son, Joshua is involved in many YMCA activities ranging from swimming lessons, youth sports, tennis lessons to martial arts.

The LeRette’s have been involved with the YMCA since it was founded in Montgomery County back in 1995. Both have participated in countless YMCA fitness/exercise programs, running events, committee’s, board of director terms, fund raising activities, events such as the annual Mystery Drop event,  and as volunteers and donors for the annual campaign and YMCA’s Heritage Club endowment program.

 VOLUNTEERS OF
THE MONTH

The Montgomery County Family YMCA is pleased to announce that the YMCA’s 2nd – 3rd Grade Baseball Coaches; pictured left to right: Bobbi Roeder, Jeremy Clark, Aaron Schmid, Brian Mensen, Brian Couse, Craig Woods, Bret Eubank, and Dustin French are the Volunteers of the Month for June. These coaches were responsible for coaching the 30 boys involved in the program at their practices and games held during the season.

Please join the YMCA in congratulating them on this honor.

FITNESS EQUIPMENT
FUNDRAISER

We would like to share an incredible opportunity with you! Currently, the Montgomery County Family YMCA has raised $93,353 of the $96,000 Fitness Equipment Fundraiser project through some gifts, memorial funds, and grants, but we would like to have all our members be involved with this great opportunity. Help us come in with a strong finish and knock this goal out of the park! Each donor will have their name on a donor recognition vinyl banner!

Thirteen years ago we were a new facility with a fitness center full of top-notch, well respected Body Masters brand fitness equipment. That equipment has served us well over the years, but the 31-year old Body Masters Sport Equipment company closed it’s doors a few years back and parts to repair our equipment are no longer readily available.

Our goal is to have the new wellness equipment in place by mid-August, 2014. We hope that you can help us reach this goal. We value your membership, friendship, and support of our YMCA that we are blessed to have.

REDWOODS FOUNDATION
DONATION

The Montgomery County Family YMCA of Red Oak, Iowa recently received a $250 grant from The Redwoods Group Foundation of Morrisville, North Carolina.

The Redwoods Group Foundation is a 501c3 backbone organization that catalyzes movements that create positive social change.  The Redwoods Group is a commercial specialty insurance  risk management organization that insures  many YMCA’s throughout  the  United States of which one is the Montgomery County Family YMCA of Red Oak,  Iowa.

The $250 grant will be use to purchase a case that can mounted on one of the YMCA’s lobby walls and to place our current AED in the case. An AED is an automated device that recognizes a heart rhythm that requires a shock.  AEDs provide an electrical shock to the heart, called defibrillation. The sooner the shock is administered, the greater the likelihood of the victim’s survival.  The current YMCA’s AED machine is located at the Customer Service Center.
