THE Y.
FOR A BETTER US™
ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
In November of 1992 a small group of people interested in Montgomery County
and its future, gathered to begin the process of bringing a YMCA to Montgomery County. Many were interested in providing safe and wholesome activities for kids and families. The YMCA, with over 150-year history of service to communities, is a leader in fitness, youth programs, swimming, recreation, child education, senior adults and much more. The Y is more than a gym. It’s a cause. As a charity, we’re dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving the nation’s health and well-being, and giving back and providing support to our neighbors.

The Y has a long history of strengthening community because we are in the communities we serve. We strengthen communities by advocating for positive change. Nationwide, Y’s are active at all levels of government and have influenced 25,000 changes in laws or civic codes that enhance community life. From A to Z, our programs answer community needs with action and attention. We are a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility.

NO ONE DENIED

What is the Annual Campaign?
You know the challenges that we face in Montgomery County. People of all ages and backgrounds are struggling to reach their full potential. More and more children face seemingly insurmountable learning gaps. Families find it difficult to spend quality time together. People are not connected to their neighbors and face time happens through a phone. And instead of seeing the income gap shrink, it seems all we do is watch it grow.

But when challenges arise, the Y – and donors like you – steps in. After 20 years of serving Montgomery County, the Y understands what our community needs to be its best. Working with generous donors like you, the Y provides everyone the opportunity to be healthy and thrive, to connect with others, and contribute to a better community. Everything the Y does is in service of making us – as individuals and a community – better.
The Y.™ For a better us.™

How much of the money raised in the Annual Campaign goes to helping those in need?
100% of the dollars raised in our Annual Campaign goes directly to our financial assistance program, serving those in need right here in Montgomery County.

How do people qualify for financial assistance?
Financial assistance applications are available at the front desk of the YMCA or online by visiting our Financial Assistance Page. Once an application is received, it is processed and reviewed to determine the amount of assistance the applicant may qualify for. Scholarship dollars range from 15% to 60%, depending on need. All applications are confidential.

Which YMCA programs and services offer financial assistance?
All programs and memberships qualify for financial assistance. This includes swim lessons, fitness classes, youth sports, older adult programs and much, much more.

Who furnishes the funds?
Many generous people in Montgomery County and beyond furnish the funds needed to support the YMCA’s Annual Campaign. These individuals are from all walks of life. Without this support, the YMCA would not be able to offer hope and opportunity for people who otherwise could not afford to be a part of the YMCA family. We believe that when we work as one, we build a stronger community.

How can you help?
Here are a few ways your financial gift will make a difference in a person’s life:
$60 gives a child the opportunity to learn the life-saving confidence gaining skill of swimming.
$100 gives 2 youth the chance to learn new skills and make new friends while playing a season of Y Youth Sports.
$195 provides a young adult with an annual membership at the Y, where they can find respite from social, economic, and educational challenges.
$425 provides a single parent family with a yearly Y membership that offers health and social benefits leading to improved overall well being and a stronger family.
$1,000 gives a child the opportunity to experience Y Summer Camp, creating life-changing experience and memories.
$1000+ supplies the vital resources needed to allow the Y to fulfill it’s mission to serve everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
