If people with disabilities were a formally recognized minority group, they would be the largest minority group in the United States. By offering adapted programs, communities can become more inclusive, create opportunities for volunteers, as well as improve the overall wellness of the community.

Currently, the Courage League is offering adapted sports programming for Soccer, Basketball, Baseball/Softball and adaptive fitness-based classes. The Montgomery County Family YMCA will begin offering this programming in late Fall of 2020.

“We are extremely excited to be able to partner with and offer Courage League sports programming right here in Southwest Iowa for kids with special needs at the Y in Red Oak. We started several years ago with a baseball league called STAR League and this affiliation with the Courage League will let us expand on that by giving more resources to train volunteers, provide more marketing power, and by offering a wider array of sport opportunities to kids that are not getting those opportunities through their local schools or other agencies”, according to John Blomstedt Executive Director of the Montgomery County Family YMCA.
