YMCA NEWS: October 28th, 2013
The Montgomery County Family YMCA held its 4th Annual Mystery Drop Event on Sunday, October 27th, 2013 on a beautiful October afternoon! The event was held at the Montgomery County Fair Sale Arena on the grounds of the Montgomery County Fair in Red Oak, Iowa with the “drop” starting at 2 p.m.
All 300 squares sold again for the second straight year. This year all tickets were sold two full day’s before the “drop”. Thus if the “drop” happened on your square you were the winner of the $5,000 grand give away and if you were present when the “drop” took place on your square would receive another $500 in bonus in cash. There was music by Red Oak disc jockey Greg Brower, food served by the Montgomery County Family YMCA’s Auxiliary Club along with coordination of deserts. There was simply lots of fun and fellowship at this year’s Mystery Drop!
Three hundred squares were displayed on the Sale Arena floor at 2 p.m. This year’s mystery animal was truly a mystery till right up to the “drop” time. “Cyclone” the goat owned by Scott, Gayle, Tanner & Tatum Allensworth brought “Cyclone” was released into the show arena shortly after 2 p.m. to run or walk around the arena to create his “drop.” The drop took only a few seconds unlike in 2010 when the event took over 10 hours before the drop took place.
The winner of the $5,000 was Dr. Bill & Christie Butz / family of Red Oak, Iowa. The Butz’s family then donated the all $5,000 back to the Free Clinic of Southwest Iowa. There were also two lucky winners of $200 worth of YMCA bucks. Kent Marsden and Derrick Bucy both of Red Oak, Iowa along with several staff members of the Farm Credit Services of America employees of Red Oak, Iowa office. YMCA bucks can be used for membership renewals, purchase of memberships, program services etc.
The Montgomery County Family YMCA would like to thank all the dedicated YMCA volunteers and staff that were very successful in selling tickets for the Mystery Drop along with all the 300 individuals, business, organizations, groups of individuals that purchased tickets, our judges, the Montgomery County Fair Board, YMCA Auxiliary Club members, Red Oak Disc Jockey Greg Brower, support from the local media, special thank-you to KCSI/KOAK Radio Stations, the Red Oak Express, Hy-Vee Food Store of Red Oak, Fareway Grocery Store of Red Oak along wit, Scott, Gayle, Tanner and Tatum Allensworth family( Red Oak, IA) for bringing the star of the event “Cyclone” to the 2013 YMCA Mystery Drop.
All proceeds this year went to assist
the YMCA in the following areas, general operational needs, funding for new
wellness / fitness equipment, “Our Future Is in Your Hands” endowment funding
and the YMCA’s long term maintenance needs. The YMCA’s “Our Future Is in Your
Hands” program was established in the fall of 2008 to ensure that the YMCA will
be here for the next generation to use and enjoy in so many ways! The YMCA
through the generosity of top benefactors of the Montgomery County Family YMCA will
raise from the event after expenses.
