Dangers of the "Blackout Game"

by Kristi Potts on 12/05/13

After an incident that happened the other night I have something serious I would like to bring to your attention: Many kids in our area have started to get involved in the "Blackout" or "Pass Out Game" This is a "game" where they hold their breath, push on their chests or throats with their hands or other items, or folding themselves in half trying to make themselves pass out. What seems like an innocent game and a few seconds of a natural "high" can have very serious and life-threatening complications.
Please be aware this IS happening in our area. Educate yourselves, talk to your kids. Many of our kids just don't realize that every time they do this they are killing thousands of brain cells and putting their life on the line. None of us want anyone getting hurt, especially from something that might be prevented from just a talk with our children. Teach them about the risks and dangers of this "game" that can go by many different names.
G.A.S.P. is a not-for-profit organization that was developed specifically to bring "games" like this to light and help put an end to these senseless injuries and deaths. Please visit G.A.S.P.'s website for more information and helpful tools to educate your family. http://www.gaspinfo.com/en/involved.html
