FITNESS EQUIPMENT
FUNDRAISER
We would like to share an
incredible opportunity with you! Currently, the YMCA has raised $80,000 of the
$90,000 goal for the Fitness Equipment Fundraiser project through gifts,
memorial funds, and grants. However, we would like to have all our members be
involved with this great opportunity. Help us come in with a strong finish and
knock this goal out of the park! Each donor will have their name on a donor
recognition board!
Thirteen years ago we
opened as a new facility with a fitness center full of top-notch, well
respected Body Masters brand fitness equipment. That equipment has served us
well over the years, but the 31-year old Body Masters Sport Equipment company
closed it’s doors a few years back and parts to repair our equipment are no
longer readily available.
Our goal is to have the
new wellness equipment in place by mid-August, 2014. We hope that you can help
us reach this goal. We value your membership, friendship, and support of our
YMCA that we are blessed to have in our com-munity, county, and area.
ANNUAL
CAMPAIGN UPDATE
We have raised over $34,000 of our annual
campaign goal to raise $56,000 so far. Funds raised will support a wide range
of activities from athletics to summer day camp. The Y doesn’t just strengthen
bodies – it strengthens people, families and communities.
To learn more about how you can support the
Y’s cause, please contact Nick Zimmer, Executive Director at 712-623-2161 or
execdir@mcymca.com, or visit www.mcymca.com for more information.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
MARY CHAPMAN
Back when she joined the Y in 2004 Mary
Chapman was taking water aerobics classes for arthritis in her knees. It helped
with the pain and swelling and gave her the mobility she was looking for. By
2008, she was teaching two of the classes (Aquacise on Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday 9:00 -10:00 am and Aqua Fit on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 11:00 am
-12:00 pm) and exercising for an hour on her own between classes. On the days
she does not have class she works out upstairs in the Wellness Center.
“Overall”, she says, “I am healthier and I have lost weight.”
Since joining she has also become involved
with the Auxiliary Club. The Auxiliary Club is a volunteer service organization
that helps at various events such as Soupfest, Golf Benefit Tournament,
parades, and special community/area events at the YMCA or throughout the
community.
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
SANDY OLSON
Over the past few months Sandy Olson has
been coming in to the YMCA to fold, stuff, and seal letters going out to
members and potential members after her regular workout. Sandy underwent knee
replacement surgery in the past year and Terry Snyder, the YMCA’s strength and
conditioning coach, had advised her on the best machines to use.
Sandy worked on a mass mailing of information
that included: the YMCA’s annual campaign mailing, a biannual Heritage Club
flyer that went out to those that have contributed to our long-term maintenance
endowment, an invitation to a special travel presentation on June 19th at 5:30
pm which will review a New York City Holiday Trip planned for December 4th-
8th, and a letter regarding the new fitness equipment fundraiser project. With
over 4 different mailing projects going on simultaneously the extra help was
more than appreciated.
A school teacher in Red Oak for 41 years,
she retired in 2003 and has been involved in volunteer projects at the Red Oak
Library and the Montgomery County Family YMCA since. As she explained, “I had
volunteers in my class-room when I was a teacher and was always grateful for
the help. I enjoy volunteering at the Y. It is good to give back to the
community.”
If you have a Y story you would like to
share with us please contact Anne Stewart at 712-623-2161 or by e-mail at astewart@mcymca.com.

SCHILDBERG GRANT
The Montgomery County Family YMCA of Red
Oak, Iowa recently received a $2,500 grant from the E.F. & Sylvia
Schildberg Foundation from Green-field, Iowa.
The Schildberg Construction Company of
Greenfield, Iowa was founded in 1936 by a great husband and wife team, E.F. and
Sylvia Schildberg. The couple valued hard work, honesty, loyalty and desire to
help others. On September 30th, 1986, fifty years after founding of the
Schildberg Construction Company, the Schildberg Foundation was created by
Sylvia Schildberg as an expression of appreciation to the people of this area.
The purpose of the Foundation is to give financial assistance to non-profit,
charitable, educational, or other causes that better the human condition and
encourage community betterment. To learn more about the E. F. & Sylvia
Schildberg Foundation one can contact the foundation office in Greenfield, Iowa
at 515-743-2131.
This grant will be used to enhance the
experience of members of the YMCA and guests with new fitness, wellness,
personal, cross training & circuit training equipment. The YMCA also would
like to install new wellness center flooring and new efficient lighting as
part of the new look to the YMCA’s Bulkeley Wellness & Fitness Center.
This past October, 2014 The YMCA was
awarded a $32,500 1:1 matching grant with the Iowa West Foundation for the same
project. The YMCA would like to raise $90,000 in total to complete all phases
of this project. So far the YMCA has raised $80,000.
