Shirley Billings, YMCA incoming Board of Director’s President announced the YMCA’s 2013 goals. The YMCA will continue to honor the mission of the YMCA: “to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body of all!” The YMCA will continue to honor the core values of honesty, faith, respect, responsibility, and caring and also honor the new YMCA efforts for social development, healthy living, and youth development.
YMCA Goals for 2013
Montgomery County Family YMCA incoming President of the Board of Director’s, Shirley Billings announced the YMCA 2013 goals and objective statements within the areas of: programs, volunteer/staff development, membership, financial/endowment development and facility development.
TO HONOR THE MISSION OF THE YMCA – To put Christian principals into practice through programs that build healthy body, mind and spirit for all.
TO HONOR THE CORE VALUES of the YMCA of caring, honesty, respect, faith and responsibility that will build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
THE NEW HONOR FOR THE YMCA’S efforts for Social Development, Healthy Living, and Youth Development.
MEMBERSHIP
1. Developing and maintaining a list of activities for new membership to strive to make everyone feel welcome. By listening to the members and what they want out of this YMCA, then passing it on to the decision makers.
2. Leveling out the amount of memberships being cancelled and strive to help convert the casual member into an invested member through volunteerism.
3. Continue to keep the YMCA in the public eye by creating and distributing eye-catching and interesting promotions and programs. Also by putting our story and announcements on the radio and in the papers.
4. Listening to the members and potential members and fulfilling their needs to the best of our ability. By developing new activities they want and being flexible to their needs. This will also increase our retention of members.
5. Develop membership opportunities with new and old local businesses. Finding the “WOW” feature and trying different approaches until we find a working solution for everyone.
6. Build on existing relationships while making new ones both in and out of the community.
7. Continue to make “welcome” and “thank you” calls to new members as well as take a leadership role in collecting past debt.
8. Continue communication to schools about various YMCA youth programming opportunities and membership values as a member of the YMCA.
9. Continue “Spotlight on the YMCA” to promote what the YMCA is truly doing for the community and area as simply a good neighbor/partner.
10. Continue to maintain Facebook and the Website.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
1. To keep striving for the highest level of customer service to our members.
2. Continue to train and have customer service reps and building supervisor participate in in-house workshops to help staff grow in their position.
3. Have all staff follow and treat our members and guests using the core values of caring, honesty, respect, faith and responsibility.
4. Hold monthly customer service reps/building supervisor meetings.
5. Continue to develop supervisor and leadership skills with staff.
6. Helping our staff to be a supervisor and also caring friend to all who come in the YMCA. Striving to be a fun and exciting environment with lots to do in a controlled respectable way.
7. Minimizing the mistakes and focusing on our work and what is being asked of us. By slowing down and concentrating.
PROPERTY & GROUNDS
1. Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
2. Work to repair any problems in a timely manner.
3. Continue to follow our current plan of Risk Management that was put in place to help protect our customers and ourselves.
4. Continue to secure new endowment long term funding for major maintenance reserve to be used for major equipment repairs and replacement.
5. Keep repair and supply cost as low as possible.
6. Necessary research pool surface life expectancy.
7. To maintain the energy efficiency of the building and if possible find new ways and ideas for cost savings.
9. To secure grant funding for new plastic lockers for all the YMCA lockers
10. Installation of a new pool boiler that will hopefully show some savings in energy.
11. Continue to install more finger guards around the Y’s facility on the doors at the Y that do not have finger guards on them at present.
AQUATICS
1. Increase the number of group swimming lessons offered throughout the entire year.
2. Add 2 or 3 Parent-Tot swimming lessons
3. Offer 2-3 Lifeguarding Classes throughout the year
4. Host 1 or 2 stroke clinics for swim team members and those interested in participating
5. Continue the monthly trainings and in-services for the current Lifeguard staff
6. Offer more programs along with Early Out swimming
7. Bring families in for special events such as DIVE IN MOVIES, FAMILY SWIM DAYS, and more
8. Offer Scuba program for those interested
KIDS PROGRAMS
1. Increase participation and offering of DAY CAMPS. Extending it into possible holiday and vacation day camps
2. Offer Parent’s night out programs throughout the year
3. Develop more programs for children of all ages, such as Gym & Swim and Pre-school tumbling
4. Teach children how to behave and respect the YMCA facility, and to take advantage of all it has to offer.
FINANCIALLY
1. To offer and run the YMCA’s annual campaign with the collaborative efforts with the collaborative efforts with the aid of the YMCA of USA Iowa Collaborative Annual Campaign efforts. To recruit 90-100 volunteers to be involved in making within a 45day personal one-on-one ask with our members and donors for the YMCA’s annual campaign. The 2013 goal has been established to raise $51,000. This program is conducted annually to honor the YMCA’s long standing policy that no one is denied YMCA membership or program services due to financial limitations.
2. YMCA Endowment Program continues to grow its principal amount of $1 million dollars and obtain the safest rate of return interest for the YMCA’s investment earnings.
3. We have raised $600,000 and would like to be at the $625,000 mark at the end of 2013.
4. The YMCA will host another Endowment Heritage Club Dinner in early October to celebrate the commitment of the YMCA’s donors and generosity to the YMCA’s long term success and future.
5. YMCA will work each day through the mission of the YMCA to balance our operating budget.
6. Secure grant funding and other support funds for various program operations. Continue to assist in making Red Oak and Montgomery County a great place to live and work.
PERSONNEL – Staff/Volunteers
1. Continue staff development by providing training to grow professionally with emphasis on in house training.
2. YMCA employees in 2013 will continue to be members of the YMCA as part of an employee benefit package. Each employee will have the opportunity to enjoy the YMCA and stay fit and enjoy wellness opportunities at the YMCA, when not meeting the needs of our members and guests.
3. Continue Board and Committee development. Recruit the best volunteers to work for the mission of the YMCA with the aid and leadership of the Board Development Committee.
4. Provide recognition for staff and volunteers.
5. Place emphasis on volunteer development with having more members involved with our 2013 Annual Campaign program where the YMCA will close the gap between facility members and having facility members become donor members as well as being volunteers. This will create more volunteer leaders for the YMCA in various areas; youth sports, committees, Board of Director roles and strengthen our membership retention base.
6. Teach caring, honesty, responsibility, faith and respect, the core values of setting a good example and the Y’s new tag line; For Youth Development, For Healthy Living, and For Social Responsibilities.
7. More in service refreshers with first aid/CPR for our non professional lifeguard.
8. To be the best staff possible in all areas of the YMCA for quality programming, customer service, safety, facility care, and connecting with as many of our members as possible.
9. More “Redwoods Group” on-line risk management courses for our entire staff to participate in 4-5 courses per year. This just reinforces that safety is a number one priority our entire YMCA staff.
Health and Wellness
1. Continue to reach out to all health seekers with an enthusiastic, approachable attitude using the Activate America tools.
2. Help health seekers select realistic and obtainable goals, which will in turn, help them continue to strive to better themselves.
3. Continually strive to develop programs that participants not only enjoy but also help them develop and maintain a fitter “self.”
4. Listen thoughtfully while watching out for potential problems before they arise and taking care of them calmly, rationally, and without drawing unneeded attention to the situation.
5. To keep and maintain a clean health/wellness area.
6. Do regular maintenance on equipment in cooperation with Property Manager.
7. Look at possible new equipment needs to better serve members and guests.
8. Use the core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring in working with staff, members/guests and volunteers.
ADULT & YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS/TENNIS CENTER ACTIVITIES
1. Continue to offer quality programs and to develop new programs, both physical & non-physical, by being pro-active in addressing member's needs and to continually evaluate programs as to whether they best reflect the YMCA's mission statement and core values.
2. Continue to promote Tennis & Racquetball programs to area residents and other regional tennis centers & recreational facilities. Emphasis on promotion of youth and adult tennis tournaments.
3. To be fiscally responsible in all program areas in relationship to both the participant’s and YMCA’s involved costs.
4. Continue to interact with members in demonstrating that the YMCA is concerned about their welfare, both mentally & physically.
5. Continue to work with area schools & organizations to provide quality programs for youth & adults.
6. Continue emphasis of the YMCA’s mission and core values in all contact with members & non-members.
7. Continue to incorporate the Civic Engagement principles in YMCA’s programs.
General Goals
1. Continued implementation of Daxko software and the ongoing training of Y staff to better serve our members. Utilize Daxko for tracking of the Y’s Annual Campaign.
2. Hold Listen First Trainings for Y staff to help us better interact with health seekers.
The Montgomery County Family YMCA serves 3,283 members and 1,032 program participants of which 1,298 are under the age of 18. The YMCA employs 76 staff and boasts 352 volunteers which served over 1,954 hours of work.
The Montgomery County Family YMCA wishes to continue to value our community and area partnerships/collaboration efforts to meet the social, health and responsibility efforts to make southwest Iowa, Montgomery County and Red Oak the best place to live and work in.
To work with the Red Oak Community Schools annually over the holiday Christmas break with facility trade usages and save the community tax payers an estimated $10,000 from the budget of the Red Oak Community School District.
The YMCA has and will continue to be a solid neighbor to assist organizations; community, Thanksgiving Dinner, to helping schools with facility trades to assist with state reduction of operations for public schools, hosting American Red Cross Blood Drives at the YMCA throughout the year just to touch on a few of the ways the YMCA plays a major role in the community of Red Oak, Montgomery County and Southwest Iowa.
