Mystery Drop WINNER!
by Kristi Potts on 10/23/12The Montgomery County Family YMCA held its third annual Mystery Drop Event on Sunday, October 21st, 2012. It was held at the Montgomery County Fair Sale Arena on the grounds of the Montgomery County Fair in Red Oak, Iowa with the “drop” starting at 2 p.m.

All 300 squares sold and if the “drop” happened on your square you were the winner of the $5,000 grand give away and if you were present when the “drop” took place on your square would receive another $500 in bonus in cash. There was music by Red Oak disc jockey Greg Brower, food prepared by the Montgomery County / Mills Cattlemen Association and the Montgomery County Family YMCA’s Auxiliary Club for deserts along with lots of fun and fellowship.
Three hundred squares were displayed on the Sale Arena floor at 2 p.m. “Husker the Bull” owned by the Flying A Cattle Company of Red Oak, Iowa owner Gerry Anderson and staff member Chris Brown who prepared and brought “Husker the Bull” to the sale arena was let loose to run or walk around the arena to create his “drop.” The drop took only a few minutes unlike in 2010 when the event took over 10 hours before the drop took place.

The Montgomery County Family YMCA would like to thank all the dedicated YMCA volunteers and staff that were very successful in selling tickets for the Mystery Drop along with all the 300 individuals, business, organizations, groups of individuals that purchased tickets, our judges, the Montgomery County Fair Board, Montgomery /Mills County Cattlemen Association, YMCA Auxiliary Club members, Red Oak Disc Jockey Greg Brower, support from the local media, special thank-you to KCSI/KOAK Radio Stations, the Red Oak Express, Hy-Vee Food Store of Red Oak, the Red Oak Optimist Club, Flying A Cattle Company of Red Oak, Iowa - owner Gerry Anderson and employee Chris Brown who prepared and brought the star of the show "Husker the Bull" for the 2012 YMCA Mystery Drop.
All proceeds benefited the YMCA’s “Our Future Is In Your Hands” endowment funds to assist with long term facility and maintenance needs of the YMCA of Montgomery County. This program has been established in the fall of 2008 to ensure that the YMCA will be here for the next generation to use and enjoy in so many ways! The YMCA through the generosity of top benefactors of the Montgomery County Family YMCA raised $21,500 from the event after expenses to go such projects as new lockers in the locker room area, an ADA swimming pool chair lift and replacement costs for new swimming pool heater.
