Mystery Drop Winners!

by Kristi Potts on 10/22/20

The 11th Annual Mystery Drop was completed last Sunday afternoon in chilly & windy but sunny conditions. A crowd of about 50 people was on hand to see Grace Blomstedt in the Aerial Firetruck’s bucket dump the 100 plus tennis balls onto the grid. After the balls had stopped moving, judges Mark McCaffrey & Beth Vial were joined by John Blomstedt to determine the winners. All of the Mystery Drop tickets were sold for the 8th time out of 11 years!

Those holding the lucky ticket were:
White Ball ($500) winner Diane Hietbrink
Red Ball ($1500) winner Larry Barmann & The “Tennis Babes”. The prize was split as the ball was exactly on the line between the 2 boxes which were the tickets held by Larry Barmann & The “Tennis Babes” (Carolyn Rech, Julie Bradley, Cyndy Johnson, Pat Jensen, and Joann Moss). Mr. Barmann will be donating back his winnings to the Y.
Blue Ball ($5000) winner Dr. Terry Gillespie. This is the 2nd win for Dr. Gillespie after his first win in 2018.

The Y will have a net of over $16,000 from the event so thank you again to all involved for your efforts in making this year’s event such a success! Special thank you to the Red Oak Fire Department for the use of the Aerial Firetruck to drop the tennis balls, Greg Brower for serving as our DJ and public address announcer, YMCA volunteers for the great refreshments, KCSI/KOAK Radio, and the Red Oak Express for media relations work, and to everyone that purchased the 300 tickets to support this fun-filled event.

The YMCA plans to use the proceeds to benefit our annual campaign, endowment fund, maintenance reserve fund, and operational needs to continue to serve our members, guests, and program participants to the high standards that we strive for.
