Spaghetti Dinner SUCCESS!!

by Kristi Potts on 05/06/19

On Saturday, April 27th, the Montgomery County Family YMCA along with several volunteers and contributors from local churches and businesses came together to prepare a spaghetti dinner to raise funds for those affected by a fire at an apartment house at 6th and Reed Streets in Red Oak on Saturday, April 20th, 2019.

Over 150 community members were in attendance at the dinner and $2734 was raised.  In addition to this, Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial’s Matching Fund Program contributed $2500 in matching funds for a total of $5234 that will go to the fire victims.

Sponsors for the Spaghetti Dinner were Hy Vee Food Stores, Inc. of Red Oak, Fareway Stores, Inc. of Red Oak, and Mark Jackson’s Downtown Red Oak Hardware Hank.

Both the YMCA and the Modern Woodmen felt this was a well-attended and well-received event which shows how the local community can come together to help our neighbors in need.  “The community truly came together to support a local need and that support is what it’s all about,” said Carol Walters, local Modern Woodmen volunteer leader.

John Blomstedt, Executive Director of the YMCA, commented, “The thanks from the displaced residents and the outpouring of community support was overwhelming.”
