NICK ZIMMER RESIGNS

Nick Zimmer, Executive DirectorBoard of Director President Mike Olson has announced the resignation of Montgomery County Family YMCA’s Executive Director Nick Zimmer. Zimmer has been the only executive director for the Montgomery County Family YMCA in its 22 year  history and before that had served in the communities of Fremont, Nebraska, El Paso, Texas and Niles, Michigan. Under Zimmer’s tenure the YMCA has raised over $10 million dollars through capital funding, annual giving, special events, and  endowment development in a service area of 13,000. Nick’s final day on site will be the week of June 26th.

During Zimmer’s tenure as the Executive Director of the YMCA, the staff and
volunteers were a part of developing and offering a wide range of activities for all ages and moved from store-front operations into a state-of-the-art 70,000 square foot YMCA that is ADA accessible that includes: indoor
swimming/lap/zero depth fun area, full court gymnasium, four indoor tennis courts, racquetball, walleyball and squash court, suspended running /walking track, elevator, state-of-the-art health & wellness center, special needs/family locker room, men’s/boy’s locker room, women’s/girl’s locker room, dedicated fitness exercise/dance center, lighted parking, whirlpool, multi-purpose and kitchen area.

Zimmer has accepted a positon with American City Bureau (West Dundee,
Illinois) as a consultant that will utilize Zimmer’s leadership qualities and
passion for philanthropy. American City Bureau is a family owned business
developed in 1913 and the nation’s oldest fundraising firm. ACB believes in taking a more personal approach to philanthropic growth with a mission
statement of: “Build a culture of philanthropy – together, with our clients”. The positon with ACB allows Nick and his wife Nancy to continue to stay in Red Oak and to be involved with the community, county, and area.

Zimmer indicated he has truly enjoyed his years at the Montgomery County Family YMCA making numerous friendships, relationships, and being able to assist people of all ages and backgrounds. The YMCA is truly for youth
development, healthy living, and social responsibility based on the mission, principals, and practices of Christian values.

President Olson and the Montgomery County Family YMCA Board of Directors through a recently developed strategic plan in August, 2016 are in a position to explore various options for the next steps for the Montgomery County Family YMCA.

$2,000 E. F. SYLVIA SCHILDBERG GRANT

The Montgomery County Family YMCA of Red Oak, Iowa recently received a $2,000 grant from the E.F. & Sylvia Schildberg Foundation from Greenfield, Iowa.

The grant will assist the YMCA with the purchase of a new health and
wellness tool that will serve as another staff member for us. It is a exercise fitness analysis machine that is called the InBody model 570 which goes
beyond body composition analysis. It not only analyzes how much fat and muscle a member has, but it also measures the total body water and divides it into intracellular water and extracellular water – values important to
understanding a member’s fluid distribution in medical, wellness or fitness contexts. Our staff can then use these water values to identify and track inflammation, swelling, and even injuries.

The Schildberg Construction Company of Greenfield, Iowa was founded in 1936 by a great husband and wife team, E.F. and Sylvia Schildberg. E.F. and Sylvia always gave a great share of credit for their success to their
employees and customers. On September 30th, 1986, fifty years after the founding of the Schildberg Construction Company, the Schildberg Foundation was created by Sylvia Schildberg as an expression of appreciation to the people of this area. The purpose of the Foundation is to give financial
assistance to non-profit, charitable, educational or other causes that better the human condition and encourage community betterment.

To learn more about the E. F. & Sylvia Schildberg Foundation one can contact the foundation office in Greenfield, Iowa at 641-743-2131.

A group of Red Oak High School freshmen and sophomore class members along with Red Oak High School History Instructor John Gambs, Mark Benda, Marcia Benda, and the YMCA staff were able to mulch a lot of Red Oak Legion Park, the Red Oak City Swimming Pool front entrance, and the entrances into the Legion Park off of Broadway around the entire YMCA for the first annual George Maher Day of Service on Wednesday, May 10th.

YMCA FOUNDER’S DAY

173 years ago on June 6th, the Y began helping people live better lives when George Williams founded the organization. Today the Y is addressing some of the most pressing social issues facing our country: diabetes, obesity and chronic disease, the educational achievement gap, and the lack of civic engagement in our communities.
The Y is the organization that…
· …has served the military and military families in every U.S. conflict since the Civil War.
· …inspired the formation of the U.S.O., Peace Corps and Father’s Day.
· …invented group swimming lessons, basketball, volleyball and racquetball, and gave them to the community.
