IOWA TAX SALE
WANT TO HELP THE YMCA RAISE MONEY FOR THE
ANNUAL CAMPAIGN PROGRAM?
Monday, June 16th, 2014 is the Annual Iowa Tax Sale Day. The Y is looking for volunteers to help raise money for the 2014 Annual Campaign “The Y. So much More.” program. This program assists youth and adults who want to be-come members of the Y or want to participate in a Y program, but feel they cannot because of financial limitations.
Volunteers are asked to meet in the YMCA’s Lobby at 6:15 am ready to go. We will arrive back at the YMCA at 4:00 pm. The Y receives $110 per volun-teer that day and our goal is to have 55 volunteers. The Y could possibly earn $5,500 in just one day! Transportation to the Mid American Center in Council Bluffs and FREE lunch at Famous Dave’s are provided!
Volunteers need to be 18 years of age or older. RSVP to Nick Zimmer, YMCA Executive Director, by Wednesday, June 4th, 2014 via phone at 712-623-2161, email at execdir@mcymca.com, or stop by the Y anytime to see him.

ANNUAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE
We have raised over $31,000 of our annual campaign goal to raise $56,000 so far. Funds raised will support a wide range of activities from athletics to summer day camp. The Y doesn’t just strengthen bodies – it strengthens peo-ple, families and communities.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
RUDY KINARD
Rudy Kinard has been playing tennis since he was 29 when he taught himself how to play. He participated in several tournaments in Atlanta, GA and at one point was #1 in the State in Men’s 30’s & 35”s Doubles. He began teaching around 1980 first in Atlanta at various tennis clubs and then in 1998 at the Montgomery County Family YMCA. As Rudy said recently, “I enjoy giving tennis lessons at the Y; it enables me to interact with some great guys and gals-ages 4 to almost 80”.
A life-long exerciser, Rudy enjoys seeing old friends and making new ones that share the same healthy lifestyle choices at the Y. The YMCA, with its 153-year history of service to communities, is a leader in fitness, youth pro-grams, swimming, recreation, child education, senior adult activities, and much more.

LETTER OF
THE MONTH
CHAIR     " C"        CHARITY
YOGA                                         WORK

WE’RE MORE THAN A GYM.
WE’RE A CAUSE.
GIVE, JOIN, VOLUNTEER, AND DO SO MUCH MORE.

At the Y, we strengthen communities by our charity work. We believe Montgomery County and the surrounding area can be so much more. With our members, volunteers, staff and partners, we take on the most urgent needs in our community.
From A to Z, our programs answer community needs with compassion.

FITNESS EQUIPMENT FUNDRAISER
We would like to share an incredible opportunity with you! Currently, the Montgomery County Family YMCA has raised $68,000 of the $75,000 Fitness Equipment Fundraiser project through some gifts, memorial funds, and grants, but we would like to have all our members be involved with this great opportunity. Help us come in with a strong finish and knock this goal out of the park! Each donor will have their name on a donor recognition vinyl banner!
Thirteen years ago we were a new facility with a fitness center full of top-notch, well respected Body Masters brand fitness equipment. That equipment has served us well over the years, but the 31-year old Body Masters Sport Equipment company closed it’s doors a few years back and parts to repair our equipment are no longer readily available.
Our goal is to have the new wellness equipment in place by mid-August, 2014. We hope that you can help us reach this goal. We value your membership, friendship, and support of our YMCA that we are blessed to have in our community, county, and area.

ANNUAL LOCKERS AVAILABLE
Tired of lugging that heavy gym bag back and forth? Want to be able to go directly from the Y to work or other activities?
Consider purchasing a locker!
Lockers in the Men’s/Boy’s Locker Room, Women’s/Girl’s Locker Room, and Family Locker Room can be rented annually for only $60 for the medium lockers and $90 for the large lockers. So forget the hassle of remembering your swim suit, shampoo, sneakers, etc. and see someone at the front desk today!

RED OAK TOURISM &
RECREATION GRANT
The Montgomery County Family YMCA was one of several community organizations and/or businesses to earn a spring 2014 City of Red Oak Tourism & Recreation grant funding from the spring hotel/motel tax grant funding process and recent recommendation from the City of Red Oak Tourism & Recreation committee and then eventual approval from the Red Oak City Council for $5,000 for new state of the art technology wellness fitness center equipment and other center enhancements.
The funding nicely supports the Montgomery County Family YMCA’s involvement with the Red Oak Play & Stay Initiative program with overnight guests using the YMCA through this program and also to assist our local residents for their health and wellness fitness needs.
The Montgomery County Family YMCA has been able to secure with several grants, the Iowa West Foundation, Montgomery County Community Foundation, the Red Oak City Tourism & Recreation grants, and some early gifts from individuals and businesses $68,000 of the $75,000 campaign goal to have the new state of the art technology wellness/fitness center equipment along with some other new features for the center by mid-August, 2014. The YMCA will, in late April, conduct a public and membership phase campaign to help complete the campaign goal of raising $75,000 or more to complete this exciting project.
The Montgomery County Family YMCA is proud to be a partner with the City of Red Oak to offer many youth summer programming and much more to improve the quality of life for all ages of residents within our community. The YMCA is also very proud to serve as a major recruitment tool to bring in new prospective residents and business to our community. Together great things can happen to make Red Oak a great place to live and work in.
