The Carder Tennis Center has become a regional attraction for adult, youth, family, high school, and college play over the years, but in order to maintain the same level of excellence we must make changes!
Some changes include:
· New tennis nets
· Repainting of the tennis courts in the current ATP blue professional court colors
· New ten and under court lines to increase Junior Tennis playability and family playability.
We are working on local, county, regional, and even national grants and have already raised over $116,500.87 for the facility Enhancement.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
GARY BRANDT
As a relatively new resident of Red Oak, Gary Brandt found the Y to be a great place to get to know people. More importantly, it is an even better place for him to put his health first.
As he said in a recent letter, "Nine months ago my doctor informed me that I had high blood pressure! She told me I was a prime candidate for a stroke or heart attack at 57 years old! I took her seriously and shortly thereafter, I joined the YMCA. I have been pleasantly surprised at just how much the facility has to offer; a full gym, basketball court, racquetball court, tennis court and pool. They also have various aerobic classes and weightlifting classes. In addition to the many activities and services the YMCA offers, they have a superb staff. They always greet me with a warm smile and happy greeting when I enter the front door. They truly make my experience all the more enjoyable. I look forward to my daily workouts!”
Having lived in towns that don’t have a Y, he understands the impact that the Y can have in such a rural community and how it makes it so much easier and convenient to work out and address health issues.
He continued by saying, “I feel very fortunate to have become a part of this community. I am a daily fixture on the treadmill and work out 45 - 60 minutes every day, plus I watch my diet. I have lost over 35 lbs. in 8 months’ time and feel the best I have felt in years! I am so grateful that our community has such a wonderful facility in the Montgomery County Family YMCA.”

National Volunteer Week
by Kristi Potts on 04/07/16
Montgomery
County Family YMCA Press Release (Red Oak, Iowa)
Friday, April 1st,
2016
During National Volunteer Week (April 10-16, 2016), the Montgomery County Family YMCA joins the nation in encouraging individuals to seek ways to give back, while honoring those who dedicate themselves to helping strengthen communities.
“Our volunteers are the soul of the Y; without their selflessness we couldn’t do the work we do every day to help kids, families and communities thrive,” said Nick Zimmer, Executive Director, Montgomery County Family YMCA. “By bringing people together from all walks of life around a shared purpose to do good, the Y is creating a stronger, more cohesive community. Together, we’re building a better us.”
As one of the leading nonprofits and volunteer organizations in the country, more than 600,000 people volunteer at the Y each year and here in Montgomery County volunteers give back through such activities as mentoring teens, coaching youth sports, serving on our boards and spearheading fundraising drives. These opportunities also help volunteers enhance their personal well-being and develop meaningful relationships – all while making an impact in communities they care about.
National Volunteer Week is a great time to get involved and give back. Here are just some ways individuals can take an active role at the Y and in their community:
- Help with Y
fundraising efforts to ensure those in need can access essential programs
and services to reach their full potential.
- Get involved
with a Y mentoring or tutoring program to help youth learn new skills,
build confidence, and achieve their goals.
- Coach a
sports team, teach a class, or ask Y staff about other ways to get
involved with a program of interest.
- Volunteer to
serve on organizational committees, board of directors or become involved
in a service club.
- Invite friends and neighbors to join you in contributing to a stronger community.
To learn more about volunteer opportunities at the Montgomery County Family YMCA, contact Nick Zimmer at 712-623-2161 and/or execdir@mcymca.com.
