“Live Healthy Iowa” Local Team Results

Dietary Divas L –R:  John Blomstedt (YMCA Program Operations Manager), Maggie Yoakum, Irene Moraine and Laura Hamilton.

The Montgomery County Family YMCA, in coordination Montgomery County Memorial Hospital and the Red Oak HyVee, sponsored a local team “Live Healthy Iowa10 Week Challenge” competition to coincide with the statewide program that took place from January 28 through April 5. Seventeen teams participated in the local contest.

Teams could enter one of two categories, Weight Loss or Accumulated Activity. Teams in the Weight Loss category “weighed” in as of January 28 and tracked their weight to the end of the program. The winning team had the highest percentage of weight loss compared to their beginning weight. The Accumulated Activity team tracked the team member’s activity minutes through out the contest. The winning team was chosen based on the highest number of minutes per team member for the contest period.

Using calculations from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, those participating in the Challenge were shown to have a projected savings of over $4500 in medical and pharmaceutical claims costs for the year.

Wellness Warriors: L-R: Jeanne Redel, Sara White, Mike Webb (HyVee Store Manager) & Kerry Hohbach.

In the Weight Loss category, the “Dietary Divas” team lost a total of 6.27% of their beginning body weight. The Accumulated Activity category winner was the “Wellness Warriors” team which averaged almost 96 hours of activity per team member. Each member of the winning teams received a $20.00 gift card courtesy of the Red Oak HyVee and a One Month Free Membership or $25 Y-Buck certificate from the Montgomery County Family YMCA.
