Y Executive Director Resigns

Montgomery County Family YMCA’s Board of Director’s Chief Volunteer President Mike Olson has announced the resignation of Nick Zimmer of the Montgomery County Family YMCA’s current and only Executive Director in the 22 year history of the Montgomery County Family YMCA located in Red Oak, Iowa. Zimmer has 31 years of YMCA service in Nick’s career also able to serve the communities of Fremont, Nebraska, El Paso, Texas and Niles, Michigan before coming to Red Oak in March of 1995. Nick’s final day on site at the Montgomery County Family YMCA will be the week of June 26th, 2017.
During Zimmer’s tenure as the Executive Director of the YMCA, the YMCA staff and volunteers were a part of developing and offering as wide range of programming for everyone of all ages, moved from a store front operations from 1995 to October, 2000 into a state of the art full facility 70,000 square foot YMCA that includes: Indoor Swimming/Lap/Combined – Zero Depth Fun area, full court gymnasium, four indoor tennis courts, racquetball, wallyball and squash court, suspended running /walking track, elevator, state of the art health & wellness center, special needs/ family locker room, men’s/boy’s locker room, women’s/girl’s locker room, dedicated fitness exercise dance center, lighted parking, whirlpool, multi purpose and kitchen area and the entire YMCA is ADA accessible.
Relate to philanthropy development under Zimmer’s tenure the YMCA has raised through capital funding, annual giving, special events, and endowment development in a service area of 13,000 population over $10 million dollars of contributions to allow for residents in Red Oak, Montgomery County, Southwest Iowa and the region to have a better place to live, work, play and learn in.
Zimmer has accepted a positon with American City Bureau (West Dundee, Illinois) as a consultant that will utilize Zimmer’s leadership qualities and passion for philanthropy as a consultant with American City Bureau. American City Bureau a family owed business which was developed in 1913 is the nation’s oldest fundraising firm. ACB’s believes in taking a more personal approach to philanthropic growth with a mission statement of: “Build a culture of philanthropy – together, with our clients”. In the beginning American City Bureau focused on organizing and strengthening Chamber of Commerce. Over the next few years ACB has branded out to working with libraries, YMCA’s and other community organizations to healthcare, education, community and the arts. American City Bureau credits its rich history, exceptional service, strong relationships and innovative services in helping nonprofits realize the promise of growth.
The position with ACB allows Nick and his wife Nancy to continue to stay in Red Oak and continue to be involved with the community, county and area.
Zimmer indicated he has truly enjoyed his years at the Montgomery County Family YMCA making numerous friendships, relationships and being able to assist people of all ages and backgrounds. The YMCA is truly for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility base on the mission, principals and practices of Christian values.
President Olson and the Montgomery County Family YMCA Board of Directors through a recently developed strategic plan in August, 2016 are in a position to explore various options for the next steps for the Montgomery County Family YMCA.
